Position Highlights | The Department of Astronomy/Steward Observatory seeks applicants to fill a Postdoc position in detector development and data analysis. The applicant should be interested in UV/VIS detectors, silicon detectors, and/or photon counting detectors at any wavelength. Detector experience is a bonus, but applicants with general hardware experience are encouraged to apply. Applicants may also be interested in working on flight projects with Profs. Erika Hamden, Carlos Vargas, and Haeun Chung, of the UV group at the University of Arizona. The UV group has several early career post-docs, fosters an environment of support for members, and has a strong focus on career development. Steward Observatory has a large cohort of post-docs and is a well-known center for astronomy and astronomical instrumentation. Applicants will work primarily on developing and testing silicon-based Skipper detectors in a custom lab, in addition to contributing to the various other projects in process by this group (FIREBall-2, Aspera, etc.). There may also be opportunities for the applicant to work on their own projects/concepts. This is a year-to-year appointment, contingent upon funding and performance. Duties & Responsibilities | * Skipper CCD development and testing. * Design and proposal writing for new ground and space-based spectrographs and missions. Additional duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: *Interest in working with hardware. |
